SEATTLE, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean Beauty Seafoods is the first seafood
company in the United States to conform to the TSA's new Certified Cargo
Screening Program (CCSP). Ocean Beauty's Cordova facility is the first
facility of any type to be approved by the TSA in the state of Alaska.
Adherence to the stringent security requirements set up by the TSA ensures the
integrity of cargo throughout the chain of custody, from the time it is
processed and packed to when it is sold. It also means that Ocean Beauty's
customer orders will not be required to undergo additional screening at the
airport that could slow delivery.
"This has been more than two years in the making," said Mark Palmer, Ocean
Beauty President and CEO. "We have worked very closely with the TSA to get
this program rolling, and this represents a further commitment to bring to
market the safest and best quality seafood we can. Under these guidelines we
can reduce the amount of time the fish sits in storage, bring the freshest
possible fish to market, and know that our shipments are as secure as they
possibly can be."
"Reliably providing the freshest and safest fish to our customers is crucial,"
Palmer continued. "We have fresh fish distribution locations from Seattle to
Dallas, and with this we can assure our fresh fish customers that their
supplies will not be interrupted."
TSA's CCSP is part of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. It
stipulates that by February 1, 2009, 50% of all cargo that travels on
passenger aircraft must be screened at the piece level, and by February 1,
2010, 100% must be screened. The standards required for CCSP are in several
areas of chain of custody security, including Physical Access Controls,
Personnel Security, Procedural Security, Physical Security, Information
Technology Security, and Facility Validation.
