Safeco Names Rauline Ochs to Head Sales and Marketing

Mon Jan 7, 2008 1:00pm EST
SEATTLE--(Business Wire)--Rauline Gonzales Ochs has been named executive vice president for
Sales and Marketing for Safeco (NYSE:SAF). The announcement was made
here today by Paula Reynolds, the company's president and chief
executive officer.

Ochs, formerly Oracle's senior vice president for North American
Alliances and Channels, has more than 20 years of experience building
sales, marketing and distribution management teams at Oracle, BEA
Systems and IBM.

"At Safeco, we see insurance as the intersection of risk
management and technology," said Reynolds. "Rauline has successfully
mixed traditional and non-traditional channels in the highly
competitive technology sector to grow the bottom line. Her joining
Safeco is a cornerstone of our corporate strategy."

Ochs led Oracle's North American Alliances and Channels for four
years. She grew revenues dramatically while decreasing channel
conflict and integrating the sales operations of 32 acquired
companies. Prior to Oracle, Ochs served as senior vice president of
worldwide alliances for BEA Systems, growing channel revenue by 55
percent in two years. She began her career with IBM, selling computer
hardware to financial institutions in Orange County, Calif. Fifteen
years later, Ochs had risen to vice president of Channels Software
Sales & Marketing for the Americas.

A native Californian, Ochs holds a B.A. in economics from
University of California-Irvine and an MBA from the University of
Southern California.

Safeco, in business since 1923, is a Fortune 500 property and
casualty insurance company based in Seattle. The company sells
insurance to drivers, home owners, and owners of small- and mid-sized
businesses principally through a national network of independent
agents and brokers. Safeco is also one of the nation's leaders in the
sale and service of surety bonds.
