Global Open Challenge Allows Organizations with Charitable Projects to Tap
into Vast Network of Donors; Access to Marketing and Fundraising Tools
WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- GlobalGiving is calling for
nominations of organizations working for social change around the world,
including the United States, to compete in Global Open -- a fundraising
challenge to secure a permanent spot on the leading internet-based network for
peer-to-peer philanthropy. Organizations will have an opportunity to leverage
GlobalGiving's donor networks, technology, and partner relationships to raise
funds for their projects. In the current economic climate, charities around
the world are struggling to continue their work, which is needed more than
ever.
Previous Open challenges have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for high
impact non-profits. For example, American Open, geared towards helping out
organizations doing work in the U.S., raised $337,000 in just three weeks, and
48 organizations were awarded spots on GlobalGiving.org.
"Working with GlobalGiving.org gave us the impetus to reach out to our donors
in a fresh and interesting way," said Lisa Greenman, Founder of Take 2 and
former participant in a GlobalGiving Open Challenge. "We used GlobalGiving's
online tools and training and as a result raised money from nearly 200 new
donors that had never given to us before. The money we raised will be critical
to our success over the next year. We also received media coverage that would
never have happened without GlobalGiving."
Organizations participating in the Global Open Challenge will have access to
wide variety of customized marketing and fundraising tools including:
-- Full online giving capability, including a "personalized landing page"
on the GlobalGiving website for each project posted on the site
-- Viral communication tools -- personalized widgets, email templates,
online marketing tips, ability to communicate directly with donors
through the GlobalGiving website
-- Opportunity to participate in regular/ongoing marketing and
fundraising
campaigns and challenges, many of which offer matching funds or bounty
awards
-- Alternative gift options such a gift cards and donating to a project
"in
honor of" someone
-- Opportunity for a project to engage its donors in different ways and
invite them to start gift registries and fundraisers and track their
success
-- Ability to list multiple projects on GlobalGiving after they are
invited
to a permanent spot
-- The potential to list projects and raise funds on GlobalGiving UK, a
sister site
"Economic hardship means tough times for non-profits that are deeply important
to the wellbeing of communities everywhere," said Mari Kuraishi, President and
Co-Founder of GlobalGiving. "Many of our donors are looking for opportunities
to give back without breaking the bank and we want to do everything we can to
match the demand with the unbelievable need around the world. It is
especially the small, grassroots efforts and creative innovators that do not
have the support from bigger institutions that we hope to help."
How it Works
Nominations are being accepted until November 2, 2009. The Global Open
Challenge runs from November 24, 2009 - December 23, 2009. If you are an
organization that is a registered non-profit in the U.S. (i.e. a 501 (c)3) or
in your country, you are eligible to participate in the Global Open Challenge.
In addition to earning a spot on the GlobalGiving website, organizations that
meet the threshold of raising $4,000 from at least 50 unique donors can also
compete for additional funding: the three projects receiving the most funding
will receive additional awards of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000, respectively;
the project receiving the most number of donations will receive an additional
$3,000.
