Markel American Insurance Company Announces the Introduction of the Markel
Helmsman Yacht Program on the MAGIC System

WAUKESHA, Wis., April 4, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Markel American Insurance
Company today announced the release of their enhanced Markel Helmsman Yacht
Insurance program that provides coverage for boats with lengths of 26 feet and
over. This program, designed to meet the unique needs of the yacht owner,
joins their other Specialty Personal Lines, such as motorcycle and various
boat products, providing essential coverage to enthusiasts.
With the feature rich Markel Helmsman Yacht, owners will receive more
benefits than with any other current program at more competitive rates than
ever before. This enhancement of the program is another example of Markel
American's commitment to the yacht market. To build a program that addresses
the unique needs of the yacht owner, Markel American leaned heavily on their
experience and expertise while tapping their relationships with various
industry leaders -- from manufacturers to maritime attorneys to surveyors.
"Our experience insuring yachts positions us to deliver preferred coverage
at a fair price. We believe that as a market leader in yacht insurance we are
well equipped to look out for the best interest of the yacht owner," said
Timberlee Tamraz Grove, President and COO of Markel American Insurance
Company.
A Markel Helmsman Yacht policy provides Agreed Value Total Loss coverage
for the boat with other options available. It also includes the following at
no additional charge:
-- Protect and Recover in addition to and equal to the hull limit
    -- Personal Effects coverage
    -- Emergency Towing and Assistance
    -- Windstorm Extra Expense
    -- Protection and Indemnity
-- Wreck Removal (with purchase of Hull Coverage)
    -- Medical Payments
    -- Uninsured Watercraft
    -- Separate Pollution Limit

The program is delivered on Markel's MAGIC processing system -- the most
up-to-date processing system in the industry. This system provides the
opportunity for efficiencies previously unavailable to agents writing yacht
policies.
