Award Recognizes Utility's Tree Pruning Practices, Planting, &

PHILADELPHIA--(Business Wire)--
PECO has received a 2008 Tree Line USA award from The National
Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters.
The annual honor is given to utilities that demonstrate tree-trimming
practices that protect and enhance America's urban forests. Utilities
are judged on three categories: quality tree care, annual worker
training and tree planting and public education.

PECO was spotlighted for its comprehensive program including
mid-cycle tree trimming efforts, focus on trimming to improve electric
reliability, and working with customers to address their vegetation
concerns. The company was also recognized for using industry best
practices around distribution and transmission line trimming, in
addition to public education and promoting "planting the right tree in
the right place." More information about the award, tree planting
guidance, and The National Arbor Day Foundation can be found at
www.arborday.org.

"Proper and routine vegetation management is integral to providing
reliable electric service to our customers," said Doreen Masalta, PECO
director, Project and Contract Management. "Our programs can only be
as good as the employees that run them, and receiving this award shows
that we have employees who are dedicated to quality and to our
customers."

For several years now PECO has been using a transmission
right-of-way clearance protocol that provides a diverse environment
for wildlife by managing vegetation in a wire zone and borders of
varying heights and tree species. Vegetation Management works to keep
grasses and low shrubs in transmission rights-of-way with any larger
shrubs and small trees at the edges of the utility right-of-way.

Based in Philadelphia, PECO (NYSE:EXC) is an electric and natural
gas utility serving 1.6 million electric and 480,000 natural gas
customers in southeastern Pennsylvania and employs about 2,500 people
in the region. PECO delivered 78.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas
and 86 billion kilowatt-hours-hours of electricity in 2007. Founded in
1881, PECO is one of the Greater Philadelphia Region's most active
corporate citizens, providing leadership, volunteer and financial
support to numerous arts and culture, education, environmental,
economic development and community programs and organizations.
