Local Pharmacy Celebrates 15th Year in Business
ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(Business Wire)--
This month, the National Community Pharmacists Association is
proud to join Apothecare Pharmacy in celebrating its fifteenth
anniversary as a community pharmacy.
"NCPA applauds and appreciates pharmacies like Apothecare Pharmacy
for their dedication to the practice of community pharmacy," said NCPA
President Stephen L. Giroux, R.Ph. "More importantly, they continue to
be a vital healthcare provider, offering exceptional service to their
patients and bringing dynamic leadership to their communities."
There are over 23,000 community pharmacies in the United States,
according to the 2007 NCPA Digest--an annual comprehensive financial
and demographic survey of the nation's independent community
pharmacies. Despite the challenges they face regarding cuts in
Medicare and Medicaid, community pharmacies continue to expand their
services, including such things as nutrition counseling, delivery
services and compounding. The 2008 Digest is scheduled for release
later this year.
"Community pharmacies like Apothecare Pharmacy continue to thrive
over the years because they are constantly adapting to satisfy the
needs of their patients," said Roberts. A recent Consumer Reports
article agrees, citing that in each of its drugstore satisfaction
surveys since 1998, its readers have ranked independents above other
types of stores, with high scores for service, knowledge, products in
stock and customer satisfaction.
The National Community Pharmacists Association, founded in 1898,
represents the nation's community pharmacists, including the owners of
more than 23,000 pharmacies. The nation's independent pharmacies,
independent pharmacy franchises, and independent chains dispense
nearly half of the nation's retail prescription medicines.
