Market Purchase by the Company of its Own Shares

Shares Bought Back to be held in Treasury

Gartmore European Investment Trust p.l.c., managed by Gartmore Investment
Limited, has today purchased 29,687 Ordinary 50p shares at a price of 589.06
pence per share to be held in Treasury.

The purchase represents 0.11% of Ordinary shares in issue and is the
twenty-first purchase of Ordinary shares pursuant to a general authority
granted at the Annual General Meeting of the Company on 30 January 2009.

The purchase will reduce the number of Ordinary shares in issue that have full
voting rights to 26,673,681.

The Company's called-up share capital will continue to be 29,204,149 Ordinary
shares, of which 2,530,468 (8.66%) are held in Treasury and have no voting
rights.

Total Voting Rights

The figure of 26,673,681 Ordinary shares having full voting rights should be
used by holders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will
determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to
their interest in, the Company under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
