"This month's traffic numbers were impacted by a number of issues most
notably a 50% year over year reduction of flying at Air Midwest, the
elimination of Dash 8 flying in our Delta Connection operation, the reduction
of 5 CRJ200s from our USAIR Express operations and the reduction of nine 50
seat aircraft from our United Express operations. We believe the reduction of
turbo prop and 50 passenger regional jet flying will enhance profitability
long term as these aircraft are replaced with larger, more efficient regional
jets. In addition, the impact of severe winter weather presented some
operational challenges throughout the month, especially for our operations in
the mid west and north east of the country," said Mesa Chairman and CEO,
Jonathan Ornstein. "Despite the weather and peak travel season demands, our
operating performance has remained strong in December and that's a credit to
our people all around the country who continue to do a truly outstanding job.
I wish to thank all of our employees, as well as our airline partners for
their on-going support," Mr. Ornstein added.
Mesa currently operates 183 aircraft with over 1,100 daily system
departures to 138 cities, 40 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, the
Bahamas and Mexico. Mesa operates as Delta Connection, US Airways Express and
United Express under contractual agreements with Delta Air Lines, US Airways
and United Airlines, respectively, and independently as Mesa Airlines and go!.
In June 2006 Mesa launched inter-island Hawaiian service as go!. This
operation links Honolulu to the neighbor island airports of Hilo, Kahului,
Kona and Lihue. The Company, founded by Larry and Janie Risley in New Mexico
in 1982, has approximately 5,000 employees and was awarded Regional Airline of
the Year by Air Transport World magazine in 1992 and 2005. Mesa is a member of
the Regional Airline Association and Regional Aviation Partners.

BANGALORE (Reuters) - Investors' optimism surrounding the shares of airport security systems makers could be premature as interest in the companies' products after the Christmas Day plane scare is not expected to translate into immediate orders.
