WHAT: November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. To help raise awareness of the
disease and the need to do more to help those impacted, Governor Steve Beshear
issued a proclamation officially declaring November Lung Cancer Awareness
Month in the state of Kentucky.

WHEN: November 2009

WHERE: Throughout the month of November, LCA-Kentucky volunteers will be
representing the lung cancer community at health fairs and scattered events
that raise the awareness of lung cancer.

WHO: LCA-Kentucky volunteers include survivors, family members, friends, local
leaders and health professionals all willing to speak to the need for
increased compassion and support of lung cancer. Lung Cancer Survivor Nancy
Alvey and Lung Cancer Oncologist Goetz Kloecker, M.D., are available for
interviews.

About Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death both nationally and in
Kentucky. In 2009, it will claim more lives than breast, prostate, colon,
liver, kidney, and melanoma cancers combined. Of the 4,650 Kentucky residents
who will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, more than 60 percent will be
never-smokers or former smokers who quit decades ago.

About Lung Cancer Alliance
The Lung Cancer Alliance (www.LungCancerAlliance.org) is the only national
non-profit organization solely dedicated to patient support and advocacy for
people living with lung cancer and those at risk for the disease. Lung Cancer
Alliance is committed to reversing the decades of stigma and neglect by
empowering patients, elevating awareness and changing health policy.

Local Lung Cancer Awareness Month Activities
Local volunteer and lung cancer survivor Nancy Alvey will travel to
Washington, D.C. to participate in awareness activities with the Lung Cancer
Alliance on November 15-17, 2009. Nancy will be a part of legislative
training activities on Monday the 16th and will conduct appointments with
Kentucky legislators on Tuesday the 17th. One item on the agenda with
legislators will be discussing the Lung Cancer Mortality Reduction Act of
2009. Nancy will be delivering letters from both the James Graham Brown
Cancer Center in Louisville and the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington in
support of this legislation.

The Lung Cancer Mortality Reduction Act of 2009 involves over a dozen federal
agencies, including the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans
Affairs, and the Department of Health and Human Services, in devising a
comprehensive and coordinated plan to address this lethal disease and reduce
its mortality.

Local Lung Cancer Alliance volunteers will set up an information booth at the
local Louisville Veterans Hospital on Tuesday, November 17th from 8:00-11:00
am. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer among veterans. Vietnam
Veterans have died of lung cancer at a 58% higher rate than veterans who did
not serve there.

The November meeting of the local volunteers for the Lung Cancer Alliance will
be held at Gilda's Club, 622 Baxter Ave, Louisville, KY 40202 from 4:30 to
5:30 pm on Wednesday, November 18th. The meeting is open to anyone interested
in learning more about the Lung Cancer Alliance mission.

Exclusive: U.S. business investment showing life

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A trade group for the lenders that finance half the capital equipment investment in the United States said on Tuesday the sharp pullback in business borrowing that marked the recent downturn moderated markedly in November -- an encouraging sign companies may be growing more confident in the sustainability of the recovery.
