Successful Food Drive Held at Home Properties' Communities

Wed Nov 11, 2009 12:52pm EST
WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To help allay hunger and
ease some of the struggles of those who are less fortunate, Home Properties
(NYSE: HME) asked each of its apartment communities to help out in a
company-wide food drive this fall. Residents and staff at Home Properties
apartment communities donated non-perishable food and hygiene items to local
food banks in the nine regional areas where these apartment communities are
located. Home Properties also made monetary donations to these local food
banks based on the amount of food collected. From the start, it was obvious
that the residents were feeling the philanthropic spirit - the Food Drive's
theme was "You CAN Make a Difference," and what a difference these communities
made!

All told, the communities from the nine regional areas collected approximately
8,000 pounds of food and hygiene items. The food banks were very grateful for
the residents' willingness to give so generously to such a worthy cause. Many
food banks find that they receive fewer donations in the fall because
contributions are often organized around the holiday season, so the timing of
this food drive was really appreciated.

It is often easy to ignore the pleas of those who have less. Thankfully, Home
Properties heard the cry for help and answered the call. Through the actions
of the Company and its many wonderful residents, those with less will have
more - not just more food, but more happiness, and more hope. The residents
heard that they could make a difference, and they most surely did.

Home Properties is a publicly traded apartment real estate investment trust
that owns, operates, develops, acquires and rehabilitates apartment
communities primarily in selected Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast
Florida markets. Currently, Home Properties operates 108 communities
containing 37,107 apartment units. Of these, 35,957 units in 106 communities
are owned directly by the Company; 868 units are partially owned and managed
by the Company as general partner; and 282 units are managed for other owners.
