Agency (DLA). The purpose of the contract is to create a voice prototype
solution for warehouse applications used in DLA distribution depots

As the Department of Defense's logistics combat support agency, DLA is
responsible for providing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, joint and
allied forces and other federal agencies with a variety of logistics,
acquisition and technical services. DLA Depots manage nearly five million
items for the military services.
DLA's warehouse applications are part of its Distribution Standard Systems
(DSS) used in 25 Depots worldwide. The contract award requires MAT, Vangard
and Psion Teklogix to deliver a voice solution prototype that provides
hands-free voice activated capabilities for three existing warehouse
management applications, while avoiding any changes to DLA's DSS network or
warehouse applications. Vangard's Mobile Voice Platform adds voice-directed
capabilities to existing client-server, web/HTML and Windows Mobile-based
applications. MVP's voice architecture is completely client-resident negating
any need for server-dependent voice operations or integration.
"DLA's distribution network is arguably the largest in the world. Vangard
Voice Systems and its partners are pleased to deliver a prototype
voice-solution that can reduce operational costs while further improving the
timely and efficient delivery of materials and services to DoD Warfighters and
personnel," said Bob Bova, president and CEO of Vangard Voice Systems. "Our
Mobile Voice Platform is uniquely designed to deliver high productivity
voice-directed capabilities, while complying with DLA requirements to avoid
any changes to its existing highly efficient network, applications or business
processes."
Vangard's Voice Solution on the Psion Teklogix Ikon Mobile Computer
The required DLA voice solution using Vangard's Mobile Voice Platform, will
provide warehouse workers with complete device-resident voice translation and
operations on Psion Teklogix's Ikon Mobile Computer, the latest product in the
company's range of hand-held computers. Psion Teklogix has been a technology
supplier for DLA since 1987 providing the agency with mobile hardware and
network infrastructure solutions.
"Psion Teklogix is pleased to once again serve DLA with our advanced mobile
technologies, this time with the new advanced Ikon Mobile Computer," said Dave
Peddemors, Vice President, North American Sales for Psion Teklogix. "The new
Ikon, plus Vangard's innovative client-resident approach to voice-enabling
mobile applications, demonstrates how to deliver new voice productivity to a
broader base of warehouse applications as well as transportation, field
services and other mobile supply chain applications."
McLane Advanced Technologies (MAT) the prime contractor for the DLA award will
provide help-desk and onsite support for the voice solution prototype. MAT
(www.mclaneat.com) provides value-added logistics and information technology
services and products for government and commercial operations.
