Agreement is widespread regardless of political affiliation
WASHINGTON, June 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new survey of 1,000 Americans
nationwide conducted by the polling company(TM), inc for American Solutions
for Winning the Future reveals that 81% of the American people support the
U.S. using more of its own domestic energy resources, including the oil and
coal already here, to combat the rising cost of energy and reduce dependence
on foreign energy sources. According to the survey, 85% of Republicans, 76%
of Democrats, and 83% of independents support using more domestic energy
resources, making the tri-partisan agreement overwhelming.
The survey also shows that 69% of Americans support lowering energy prices by
using domestic energy sources, even if it means drilling off our coasts and in
Alaska, rather than suing OPEC.

"This new research is overwhelming evidence that the American people believe
we need to work here at home to solve America's energy challenges," said Dave
Ryan, American Solutions Executive Director. "Hard-working American families
are struggling to pay the soaring prices for gas, diesel, food, electricity,
and everything else affected by the high price of oil. To reduce the pain
Americans are feeling at the pump we need real energy solutions from Congress,
starting with taking immediate action to drill here and drill now."
American Solutions recently launched a "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less"
petition drive to urge Congress to drill for oil domestically to ease gas
prices. More than 340,000 Americans have signed the petition at
www.AmericanSolutions.com/DrillNow.
Highlighted findings of the survey:
Recently, the price for a barrel of oil hit an all-time high. Some people have
suggested that, to combat the rising cost of energy and reduce dependence on
foreign energy sources, the United States should use more of its own domestic
energy reserves, including the oil and coal it already has here in the United
States. Do you support or oppose this idea?

Survey Methodology
The nationwide telephone survey of 1,000 adults was fielded May 29 - June 1,
2008 at a Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) phone facility using
live callers. The sample was drawn utilizing a Random Digit Dial (RDD)
methodology. Sampling controls were used to ensure that a proportional and
representative number of adults were interviewed according to the latest
demographic figures available from the United States Census. The margin of
error is calculated at +/- 3.1% at the 95% confidence level. Margins of error
for subgroups are higher.
