CHICAGO, Nov. 12, 2009 - In partnership with the Building Technologies
Division of Siemens Industry, Inc. and its Building Education program, Chicago
Public Schools (CPS) Department of College and Career Preparation created an
unprecedented opportunity for its Class of 2010 students to connect with the
admissions personnel from Historically Black Colleges and Universities
(HBCUs). The day-long event to be held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in
Chicago provides an outstanding opportunity for Chicago Public Schools'
brightest seniors to encounter HBCUs--schools that they might not normally
consider because they are out of state or perceived as beyond their financial
means.

Through this event, thousands of CPS seniors virtually tour 40 HBCUs and meet
the admissions staff, all in one location. Each student has a chance to
register with schools that interest them and provide data on their academic
records. Later in the evening, HBCU staffs from 23 schools announce the names
of individual students and the amounts of scholarships they were willing to
offer prospective candidates. Like an awards show, this part of the evening
provides an exciting and lucrative cap to the entire event and like last year
approximately 300 students will be offered partial, annual and full-ride
scholarships collectively worth more than $35 million.
