Thousands of Impoverished Children Need New Clothes for the Fred Jordan
Missions' 20th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- For the past 20 years the Fred
Jordan Missions has sent more than 100,000 impoverished inner-city children
back to school ready to learn, by providing them with brand new clothes, shoes
and backpacks filled with school supplies. Foot Locker returns again this
year as Fred Jordan Missions' primary corporate partner for the 20th Annual
Back-to-School Giveaway, slated for Thursday, October 2, 2008, that has become
legendary throughout Southern California, bringing together the "haves" and
"have nots" for one extraordinary day to benefit the children in our
community.
This year the poorest have been hurt the most. Gasoline prices have
soared, unemployment has hit nearly every household, many have lost their
homes, and parents are forced to choose between paying their rent and feeding
their children -- and all too often their children go to school in rags,
showing that the Missions' Annual Back-to-School New Clothing Giveaway is more
necessary this year than ever before.
Yet, for the first time in the 20 years of this wonderful New Clothing
Giveaway for the children, In-Kind donations have declined drastically. With
the event only 2 weeks away, we have an urgent need for new jeans and pants,
as well as shirts and blouses for children ages 6 through 16, to clothe at
least 5,000 underprivileged boys and girls who will attend this year's event.
New children's clothing is urgently needed -- pants, jeans, shirts,
blouses, sweaters and jackets for children from kindergarten through high
school.
Clothing manufacturers, stores and wholesalers -- your help is urgently
needed. The Missions' truck can pick up pallets and large quantities.
Individuals -- your help is urgently needed. Go shopping for a needy
child, or make a cash donation and the Missions will purchase the clothing.
Please join the Missions and Foot Locker in caring for more than 5,000
needy kids!
Please phone Tom Jordan or Cheryl Beintema at Fred Jordan Missions --
1-626-915-1981 (Office hours). Or visit our website --
http://www.fredjordanmissions.org -- Donations are tax-deductible.
The Fred Jordan Missions is a non-profit organization that has fed,
clothed and sheltered our community's neediest citizens since 1944.
Throughout the year, the Missions feeds hundreds of hungry people every day
and with the assistance of compassionate donors, volunteers and staff, builds
schools, orphanages and hospitals around the world, distributes food and
clothing to the homeless, and makes every holiday special for poor families.
We bring badly needed food and clothing to crime-ridden inner cities and
provide nutritious meals and after-school education for at-risk children.
