BIO-Europe 2009 Sets New Record for Attendance and Partnering Productivity

Tue Nov 10, 2009 1:51pm EST
Partnering increases by 22 percent to over 12,500 one-to-one meetings
CARLSBAD, Calif. & ZURICH & VIENNA--(Business Wire)--
Leaders from the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries gathered last week
at the Vienna Messe for the 15th annual BIO-Europe partnering conference.

The conference drew 2,500 delegates, representing 1,400 companies from 50
countries, who engaged in 12,504 one-to-one partnering meetings. In addition,
there were 22 workshops and panel sessions, and 170 presentations by biotech
companies seeking financing, licensing opportunities or partners for advancing
their product development.

The event also featured glamorous networking evening events at the Schoenbrunn
Palace`s Orangery, the imperial Redoute Halls at the Hofburg and the ballroom of
Vienna`s Rathaus.

More complete coverage of the event can be found at

"The BIO-Europe events continue to be the place for getting biotech partnerships
started," stated Carola Schropp, President of EBD Group. "In good times and bad,
it will be alliances, licensing agreements, co-development programs and other
forms of collaboration between companies that will ultimately take the industry
forward."

Commenting on the high level of meeting productivity, Schropp added, "The vast
majority of companies engaged in partnering. 60 percent of them held from 6 to
as many as 20 one-to-one meetings, while 30 percent had more. One company even
had scheduled a record 215 meetings."

The success of BIO-Europe 2009 sets the stage for EBD Group's highly anticipated
BIO-Europe Spring® 2010 in Barcelona, Spain, March 8-10.
