Speaking of Women's Health 'Community Event' Returns to All Wal-Mart
Supercenters Nationwide January 12th
Millions of Women 'Taking Small Steps for Big Rewards'
CINCINNATI, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of a national campaign to reach
women, Speaking of Women's Health will be holding its Community Event in all
2,435 Wal-Mart Supercenters across America on Saturday, January 12 from 11
a.m. to 4 p.m., to teach, encourage and inspire women to take control of their
health, and obtain information on small steps that can result in big rewards
for their overall health and well-being.
The beginning of the year is an ideal time to make a change for a
healthier life, but making a change concerning one's health can often be a
challenging task. Studies show that changing behavior is a process and taking
small steps can be a great way to start down a successful path that can result
in big rewards. Millions of women have already taken a small step by
participating in Speaking of Women's Health Events, and earned big rewards. In
fact, 85 percent of women screened at events said they increased their
knowledge on risk factors for heart disease and 61 percent discovered they had
more than three risk factors for heart disease -- the number 1 killer of
women.
"I am thrilled to be part of this important health initiative that
provides millions of women with essential information to help them take charge
of their health and potentially prevent serious health conditions," said
Michael F. Roizen, M.D., noted health expert and co-author of YOU-The Owner's
Manual, who is partnering with Speaking of Women's Health to encourage women
to attend the event. "I hope women who attend are empowered to make small
changes that will benefit their health and improve their lives."
Women attending the Speaking of Women's Health Community Event, one of the
largest single-day, free events focused on female health and wellness, will
receive complimentary product samples from Speaking of Women's Health's
national sponsors and a free book, Love Notes to Our Moms and Other Women of
Influence. The book includes letters from successful female leaders and
celebrities such as Florence Henderson, Mary Wilson, Chef LaLa, Dottie
Peoples, and Pamela Peeke, M.D. The book is filled with health, well-being and
personal safety information, from baby care to menopause, exercise to
nutrition, and from allergies to heart disease.
"Millions of women enter our stores every day, and we are committed to
providing them with the products, services and information they need to live
better, healthier lives. Our work with Speaking of Women's Health underscores
this commitment," said Sandy Kinsey, Wal-Mart's divisional merchandise
manager, pharmacy division. "Over the years, the Speaking of Women's Health
Community Events have proven to give our customers access to important
information on healthy living. We are sure that this weekend's events will be
successful and encourage women to embrace healthy lifestyles in the New Year
and beyond."
Since Speaking of Women's Health launched the "Take a Pledge" program at
its Community Event at Wal-Mart more than four years ago, women have taken
more than 4.7 million pledges to improve their health by making one small
change in their daily lives. Awareness campaigns and programs like the
Speaking of Women's Health Community Events at Wal-Mart, help women to take
control of their health.
Dianne Dunkelman founded Speaking of Women's Health in 1995 as a one-day
women's health event. Under her leadership, the event has grown to become a
national foundation with more than 50 conferences and events in cities
nationwide, including two national multicultural health initiatives, Universal
Sisters and Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer.
