Tekelec Launches SIP Educational Webinar Series

Thu Mar 27, 2008 3:19pm EDT
More Than 500 Telecom Professionals Attend the First Session
MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(Business Wire)--
Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC) today announced it had launched a four-part
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) educational webinar series, with one
session planned for each quarter in 2008. With the acquisitions of
iptelorg, a developer of leading-edge SIP routing software, and
Estacado Systems, a software development company instrumental in the
creation of SIP, along with continuing traction for its NGN products,
Tekelec is well positioned to help telecom operators transition to SIP
and IP-based networks.

The first in the series of SIP educational webinars took place on
March 18, 2008, and was led by Jiri Kuthan, assistant vice president
for SIP services and a renowned SIP expert. Kuthan, who joined Tekelec
with the iptelorg acquisition, offered a brief overview on the history
of SIP, including definitions, standards and use cases on voice,
messaging, presence and conferencing. The event was very well
received. Highlights include:

-- Over 1,100 registrants and more than 500 attendees, about half
of whom were employees of Telecom Operators

-- A global audience representing all regions, with about half
        the attendees from North America

"It was a unique experience for me because it is rare in my region
to get such a valuable session online that is relevant for a global
audience," said Asif Iqbal, Senior Manager Operations Core Networks
for Mobilink, a leading cellular service provider in Pakistan. "The
content was clear and informative, the use cases were relevant, and
overall, the session provided a great overview to SIP. I look forward
to future SIP webinars from Tekelec."

The second webinar of the series is scheduled to take place on
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008, and will focus on SIP protocol, procedures,
and architecture. This session will be led by Robert Sparks, who
joined Tekelec from Estacado Systems. Sparks coordinates the
industry's premier interoperability event, the SIPit. He also chairs
the IETF's SIMPLE working group, which defines extensions to SIP for
Presence and Instant Messaging. He was a contributing editor to RFC
3261, which defines the SIP protocol, and the author of several
updates to the core protocol and its extensions, including RFCs 3515
and 3892, which extend SIP to allow a rich set of call transfer
capabilities. Sparks is also a member of the board of directors of the
SIP Forum.

The remaining SIP educational webinars will discuss SIP
deployment, SIP security and services, and will take place during the
third and fourth quarters, respectively. The exact dates will be
announced on our website www.tekelec.com. To pre-register for the
second seminar, please click here. A recorded version of the first SIP
webinar can be found here.
