Markel Announces Acquisition of Panel Specialists, Inc.

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Markel Corporation (NYSE:
MKL) announced today that its Markel Ventures subsidiary had acquired Panel
Specialists, Inc., a privately held company based in Temple, Texas that
manufactures panels, wall systems, casework, furniture, and countertops and
other stone-related products.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Markel Ventures owns and manages the affiliated investment activities of
Markel Corporation.

Markel Corporation markets and underwrites specialty insurance products and
programs to a variety of niche markets. In each of these markets, the Company
