Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation Partners with
Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. to Launch Contractor's Development
Program
LARGO, Md., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Prince George's County Economic
Development Corp's. Small Business Initiative Program (EDC, SBI) announces the
launch of the Prince George's County Contractors Development Program. The
program is being presented in collaboration with the Metro Washington Chapter
of the Associated Builders & Contractors, The Surety Fidelity Association of
America, Construction Finance and Management Association, The Peterson
Companies, Konterra, Laurel Commons Mall, Westphalia, general contractors, and
many other finance and bonding partners of SBI. The kick-off will be held on
Tuesday, April 15th at EDC's office, located at 1100 Mercantile Lane, Suite
115A, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
This program goal is to create millions of dollars of revenue for the
participating companies and partners, because all participants will enter into
a mentor relationship with one of our sponsors as a requirement of their
participation. The 10 week course will be taught by local developers, and will
build the competencies of 12 minority construction companies. The coursework
will include: construction accounting & financial management, estimating &
bidding, project management, contract negotiations, business development,
managing change, safety, bonding, and much, much more.
Companies that graduate from this program will have an advantage over
their peers in acquiring local contracts, because they will have an
opportunity to establish relationships with representatives from many of the
major development projects underway in the county. The objective of this
program is to build the competencies of local minority companies to enable
them to be more competitive when bidding on local construction projects.
Even in its infancy, this program is being touted as a model program,
because of the collaboration between a national builders association, local
developers, and major financial management and bonding institutions. This
program will not only generate capital for minority businesses, but it will
also create legacy wealth for each and every company that participates.
The Small Business Initiative is a division within the Economic
Development Corporation that provides direct assistance to rapid-growth small
and minority owned businesses located in Prince George's County. Through its
Alliance Partners and consulting staff, SBI develops success strategies for
all clients. Companies receive access to capital, contract opportunities,
entrepreneurial training and management consulting. To find out more about the
