Leading U.S.-Based Modern Design Retailer Opens in Toronto
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Design Within Reach
(Nasdaq: DWRI) will open its first international location on Saturday,
February 23, 2008 in Toronto, Ontario. The Toronto Studio, at 4,700 square
feet, will showcase a selection of products that includes outdoor furniture,
bedroom and workspace designs, seating, lighting, rugs and other modern items
for the home or office.
Toronto's cosmopolitan nature and history of modernism made it appealing
as the location for Design Within Reach's first Canadian Studio. "DWR built a
successful national design presence based on the founding principle of making
design within reach. Expanding beyond the U.S. will further our vision of
accessible design solutions," said DWR CEO, Ray Brunner. "Strong demand from
Canadian residents and international tourists for well designed products made
Toronto the logical choice for DWR's first international location."
The Toronto Studio joins other Studios in metropolitan areas that include
New York City, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and
DWR's first off-continent location, Honolulu, opening in March. Each Studio
carries the fully licensed classics of modern legends Charles and Ray Eames,
George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and other iconic
masters, as well as the work of contemporary designers such as Niels Bendtsen,
Jeffrey Bernett, Angela Adams and Marcel Wanders. Like other DWR Studios,
Toronto is geared toward making good design accessible to all. Visitors are
encouraged to sit, touch and otherwise interact with the pieces while making
their selections.
The Toronto Studio will host a public grand opening event from 6 - 9pm on
Thursday, March 13, which will kick off a week of support for the Canadian
museum Design Exchange. March 13 - 19, 10% of all sales at the Toronto Studio
will be donated to Design Exchange.
