SANDY, UT, Feb 06 (MARKET WIRE) --
The Women Tech Council (WTC), a non-profit organization that provides
leadership,
support and mentorship for women in all levels of the technology industry,
announced that the goals and focus of its first year were met or exceeded.
Over 250 women have participated in events and programs produced by WTC.
Volunteer
leaders at WTC are planning to capitalize on the tremendous success of 2007
to make the organization stronger and more vital in 2008.
Last March, WTC held its initial kickoff meeting, introducing the
organization to 35 of Utah's leading women in technology companies. The
attendees provided insight into ways that the organization could provide
meaningful value to the technology business community. Many of the attendees
of the initial meeting are now serving on the Advisory Board of WTC. This
was followed by the launch of an official website www.womentechcouncil.org.
"We are thrilled that our first year as an organization saw such a strong
response from the community," said Cydni Tetro of NextPage, Director of
theWomen Tech Council. "The founding members felt that the Women Tech
Councilcould provide a needed place where women in the technology industry could
come
together to learn, network and gain support from one another."
In October, WTC hosted its first event, a luncheon that featured speakers
Teri
Sundh, CEO of Podfitness, and Carol Fineagan, CIO of EnergySolutions. They
provided the
over 100 attendees with a brief technology overview of their company and
marketing strategies, as well as valuable insight on how they arrived in
leadership positions. These valuable insights included setting goals and
ambitions high, while using failures as learning opportunities (Teri Sundh), and
being proactive about giving back to the community (Carol Fineagan).
In December, WTC hosted a Holiday Social and Charity Event, where over 60
attendees networked and supported a local charity to benefit homeless women.
This
allowed the WTC to strengthen a community of technology leaders, while
maintaining
the responsibility of contributing to the community of women at large.
"This next year, we will be providing a series of working lunches on
technology topics of interest, as well as host two major luncheons," says Sara
Jones of Workman Nydegger, Board of Directors member of WTC. "Our goals are
to develop an industry and community partnership base, and create a virtual
community using technology features such as blogs and podcasts."
WTC's website, www.womentechcouncil.org, provides information on the
organization, upcoming events, membership and opportunities to get
involvedwith the organization.
"To strengthen WTC's commitment to its members we plan to develop
initiatives in
2008 that will provide member-only access to profiles, publishable directories
and
other networking resources, such as a speaker network, job postings, technology
expertise network, etc." Jones said.
