NEW YORK - After successfully marketing FiOS TV in the suburban New York
markets, Verizon is ready to launch FiOS TV in New York City. The city
granted Verizon a television franchise in May, and the franchise was confirmed
by the New York Public Service Commission on July 16. To launch the service,
Verizon will conduct an online webcast news conference, during which
executives from the company will discuss the rollout plans, pricing and
various other details about the service in New York City. In addition,
company employees and marketing staff will be on hand at Grand Central
Terminal to get the word out about Verizon FiOS TV service and depict the
Verizon "It's the Network" team, popularized by Verizon's TV and print
advertising campaign.

BACKGROUND: FiOS TV is designed to be a formidable competitor to cable and
satellite. Verizon's fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network has
industry-leading quality and reliability and is the largest of its kind in the
country. It directly connects millions of homes and businesses and is
currently under construction in more than half the states where the company
offers landline communications services. Fiber delivers amazingly sharp
pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of
high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from
the TV screen. It also delivers Internet download speeds of up to 50 Mbps
(megabits per second) and upload speeds of up to 20 Mbps as well as
high-quality voice services.
