U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for Dec. 14
WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau: Profile America Friday, December 14th. This weekend, many people will set up their Christmas tree keeping alive a tradition that goes back more than 2,000 years. Almost half of U.S. homes use an artificial tree and about a third don't include a tree in their holiday observance. The remaining one-fifth of households still put up and decorate a real tree. They may go to a cut-it-yourself farm or buy from a local lot run by the Boy Scouts or firemen. The tallest Christmas tree in the U.S. is in Blue River, Oregon a Douglas fir more than 150 feet tall, decorated with over 50,000 lights. More trees come from North Carolina than any other state. Raising Christmas trees is a $512 million a year business in the U.S. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Web at www.census.gov. Profile America is produced by the Public Information Office of the U.S. Census Bureau.
