Longtime editorial director and publisher of Kitchen & Bath Design News
honored by peers
MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Cygnus Business Media, a leading
diversified business-to-business media company, announced today that Eliot
Sefrin has been nominated to the National Kitchen & Bath Association's (NKBA)
Hall of Fame. Sefrin is the founding editor of Kitchen & Bath Design News
(KBDN), which celebrated its 25th year of publishing, and NKBA membership, in
2007. He has spent a great deal of his career covering the Kitchen and Bath
Industry, serving as both editorial director and publisher since 1994.
The Kitchen and Bath Industry Hall of Fame honors individuals who have
made extraordinary contributions to the kitchen and bath industry and the
growth and professionalism of the Association as a whole. Inductees are
reviewed by the Hall of Fame Committee from nominations made by NKBA voting
members.
"Eliot exemplifies the spirit and dedication of a committed business-to-
business publisher and editorial director," say Mike Martin, president of
Cygnus Business Media Publishing. "As one of the founders of KBDN, he has
spent more than a quarter century covering new technologies, trends and
products. The kitchen and bath have become centerpieces of design and function
in the home, and Eliot has spent years touting the growing importance of these
key rooms, and the tremendous success of the kitchen and bath industry
overall."
During KBDN's 25 years, the magazine has helped shape, define and educate
a maturing kitchen and bath industry marked by growth, new forms of
competition, an increased fashion emphasis and fast-paced change. In the
process, the magazine has helped raise the awareness, professionalism and
profitability of its 55,000+ monthly readers. KBDN has also reported regularly
on the activities of NKBA, supporting the Association's growth and assisting
in industry recognition through both its editorial coverage and programs such
as an annual scholarship initiative for students at NKBA-Endorsed Colleges.
"Being inducted into the NKBA's Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor, and
one that I'm most grateful to be receiving," Sefrin said. "It's gratifying to
know that my work over the years with KBDN has left a positive and lasting
mark on the industry and that the magazine has helped the industry remain
informed and vibrant. The honor, however, has only been made possible because
of the contributions of many talented editorial, sales, production and graphic
arts staff members, as well as our longtime support team of columnists,
contributors and people behind the scenes."
In partnership with NKBA, the magazine has co-produced the highly
successful Designing for Profit, Profitable Showroom Design and Pathways to
Profit seminar programs, aimed at delivering live education to kitchen and
bath professionals in key metropolitan markets. In addition, a special issue
of the magazine, Specification Smarts, promotes the contents of NKBA's
innovative and comprehensive "Professional Resource Library" of nine
textbooks. Sefrin has also served as a speaker at NKBA chapter meetings, as
well as a three-year member of the association's Hall of Fame committee.
Sefrin will be among a trio of nominees inducted into the Hall of Fame at
the President's Gala, a black tie event scheduled for April 10, the evening
before the kickoff of the three-day K/BIS at McCormick Place. Other 2008 Hall
of Fame nominees include industry veteran Ken Rohl, of Rohl LLC, and longtime
industry educator David Newton, CKD, CBD.
Outside the industry, Sefrin is an award-winning writer. In 2006, his
debut novel, Under A Cloud, was the recipient of the Public Safety Writers'
Association (PSWA) Grand Prize for Best Fiction.
