John Hancock Income Securities Trust Declares Quarterly Distribution

BOSTON, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- John Hancock Income Securities
Trust (NYSE: JHS) declared its quarterly distribution today as follows:
    Declaration Date:  September 2, 2008
    Ex Date:           September 12, 2008
    Record Date:       September 16, 2008
    Payment Date:      September 30, 2008
    Dividend Amount:   $0.29850


    This dividend equates to an annualized yield of 9.77 percent, based on the
fund's closing market price as of August 29, 2008.
    John Hancock Income Securities Trust is a diversified, closed-end fund.
The Fund's investment objective is to generate a high level of current income
consistent with prudent investment risk.   The Fund invests primarily in a
diversified portfolio of freely marketable debt securities issued by U.S. and
foreign corporations and governments.  Under normal circumstances the Fund
will invest at least 80% of net assets in income securities.  The Fund may
also invest up to 20% of its total assets in income-producing preferred and
common stocks.
