10 Cities to Participate in Live Well! Life Beyond Cancer Program Sponsored by
The Wellness Community and the Lance Armstrong Foundation
Program Helps Cancer Survivors Make Transition from Treatment to
Post-Treatment

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Ten cities will participate in a new
program developed by The Wellness Community (TWC) and the Lance Armstrong
Foundation (LAF) to help cancer survivors make the transition from active
treatment to post-treatment care. According to a 2007 Institute of Medicine
report, the 10.5 million cancer survivors in the U.S. face a heavy physical
and psychological burden as they transition from cancer patient to survivor.
This new program, Live Well! Life Beyond Cancer, will be launched in January
2008 to help fill the gap between cancer treatment and life following cancer.
"The Live Well! Life Beyond Cancer program provides cancer survivors with
the information, skills and tools to address exercise, nutrition, emotional
health, quality of life and medical management after treatment ends," said
Mitch Golant, PhD, senior vice president of The Wellness Community. "Together
with the Lance Armstrong Foundation, we are poised to develop a
state-of-the-art, evidence-based survivorship program that helps fill the gap
between cancer treatment and life beyond cancer."
Live Well! Life Beyond Cancer will be offered in 10 cities across the
United States. There is no charge to workshop participants, who will meet for
two and one-half hours once a week for six weeks. The program will be held
in:
    -- Wilmington, DE
    -- Walnut Creek, CA
    -- Salisbury, MD
    -- Indianapolis, IN
    -- Redondo Beach, CA
    -- Knoxville, TN
    -- Bedminster, NJ
    -- Westlake Village, CA
    -- Miami, FL
    -- Phoenix, AZ

Expert panelists at the six sessions such as physicians, nutritionists and
fitness experts will discuss various topics including:
    -- Exercise after treatment
-- Specialized nutrition for people after cancer treatment
-- The need for continued emotional and social support
-- Medical effects of cancer treatment and long-term medical management.

"In order to improve the quality of life of people affected by cancer, it
is essential to provide effective and appropriate patient care across the
cancer continuum," said Andy Miller, vice president of programs and policy for
the Lance Armstrong Foundation. "The Wellness Community is an ideal partner
for this program. They have a proven track record of implementing evidenced-
based programs that are relevant to the needs of communities and highly
beneficial for cancer survivors."
