The Willie Randolph Foundation Proudly Announces the Kick-Off of the Second
Year of Its Summer Sports Program

NEW YORK, June 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Willie Randolph
Foundation is proud to announce the kick-off of the second year of its summer
sports program for kids aged 7-15 to be held at 11 parks throughout the five
boroughs of New York City. The programs will be run in conjunction with the
NYC Parks and Recreation Department and will consist of 3 sessions -- June 30
- July 18, July 21 - August 8, and August 11 - August 29. It is anticipated
that approximately 3,000 kids will participate in these programs free of
charge this summer.
Instruction for kids will be provided across a wide range of sports,
including baseball, softball, lacrosse, track & field, basketball, soccer and
volleyball.
The Willie Randolph Foundation will again be providing $175,000 of
financial support to this season's programs.
Additional information on the program, "The Willie Randolph Summer Sports
Experience" can be found on the Parks and Recreation website
http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_things_to_do/programs/sse.html.
Doug Kimmelman, the Foundation's Board President, commented, "We are proud
to have established the Willie Randolph Summer Sports Experience program and
to continue our funding this summer. Willie Randolph has been and continues to
be an inspiration to the kids of New York City and we are confident that these
programs will provide thousands of kids with a wide range of structured
athletic activities and mentoring this summer. Willie Randolph has shown an
enormous commitment to the youth of New York through the formation of his
Foundation as well as the funding of these programs and we and Willie look
forward to continuing in these efforts for many years to come"
"The Summer Sports Experience gives New York City kids the opportunity to
play ball and train with the best, in baseball, soccer, track and field, and
more, in City public parks," said Commissioner of Parks & Recreation Benepe.
"We are enormously grateful to the Willie Randolph Foundation for continuing
to provide the lead program funding. Since 2006, it has grown from a pilot
program in 3 City parks to 11 sites in all 5 boroughs, serving about 3,000
youth. We look forward to continued work with the Foundation to encourage our
children to lead healthy and active lives."
Established in May 2006 by Willie Randolph, the Foundation
(www.willierandolphfoundation.com) supports programs and initiatives for
improving athletic opportunities for boys and girls in the New York
metropolitan area. With the objective of inspiring and providing positive
leadership to inner-city children and young adults, the Foundation places
special emphasis on supporting youth baseball programs and improving playing
facilities.
