Freedom Online Announces Successful Deployment of 1.25Gbps Carrier Grade Wireless Link to Provide High Capacity Backbone Network Services for Customers
Broadband Fixed Wireless Offers Superior Value to Fiber Optics for
High Capacity Network Services
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(Business Wire)--
Freedom Online announced today, the successful implementation of
BridgeWave's AR60X, license-free 60 GHz radio link. The BridgeWave
1.25 Gbps links were used to connect a wireless aggregation point on
Freedom Online's network backbone to a collocation facility in Ft.
Lauderdale, FL, for access to a data storage facility and Internet
portal.
Replacing the need for physical fiber optics and costly fiber
based Metro Ethernet services from local telephone and cable
companies, fixed wireless is becoming the choice of ISPs, CLECs, and
Service Providers for reliable transport services. Freedom Online's
ability to provide customers a 10Mbps to 1Gbps wireless Ethernet
solution, at a wholesale price, allows ISPs and VoIP service providers
to compete directly with DSL and Metro-Ethernet facility providers
with a reliable dedicated service that is more cost effective. Quality
of Service controls within Freedom Online's operating systems provide
packet prioritization for voice and video data streams while ensuring
connectivity between the end user and service provider.
BridgeWave's gigabit wireless Ethernet links were chosen for
backbone applications that require high capacity, low latency and
"five nines" availability. Freedom Online, prefers BridgeWave's
products as they seamlessly integrate into their network management
systems, deliver overall value far superior to leased fiber services,
and provide a rapid return on investment.
"The installation and testing was flawless," said Ted Mahoney,
president and CEO of Freedom Online. "Our technicians were excited
about the ease of installation, the tested performance, and throughput
of this unit. The system booted-up on the first try with no system
errors, and packet delay was only 0.9 milliseconds."
Freedom Online is deploying the BridgeWave license-free 60 GHz and
80 GHz systems to upgrade and extend their backbone network in the
Miami and West Palm Beach areas. Bridgewave is the leading supplier of
gigabit RF connectivity solutions for service providers, government,
military and enterprise applications.
According to Mr. Mahoney, "With the addition of Advanced
Encryption Standard (AES) to the AR60X radio link, Freedom Online will
meet 'Top Secret' security standards and U.S. Army IMOD program
security requirements." The objective of U.S. Army IMOD
(Infrastructure MODernization) is to improve the fiber optic cable and
wireless communications at military bases and installations worldwide,
integrating voice, data, cable plan and/or transmission products and
services into a single, integrated communications system.
Freedom Online provides fixed wireless transport to enterprise
customers and Service Providers in Central and Southern Florida.
Transport products include 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, 400 Mbps, and 1 Gbps
data rates in a dedicated transmission stream. Products are also
available in 10 Mbps increments for enterprise customers' access, and
services are provisioned through 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz fixed wireless
systems distribution networks. Freedom Online is deploying the
BridgeWave license-free 60 GHz and "path licensed" 80 GHz systems to
upgrade and extend their backbone network in the Miami and West Palm
Beach metro areas. Future plans also include upgrades to their Central
Florida network.
Freedom Online's consumer retail price for 10 Mbps is typically
below that of competitive DSL and Cable providers with greater
reliability and service through-put. These services are delivered to
the business customer's locations through a high availability wireless
backbone and a local fixed wireless distribution network. Provisioning
time from order date is, in most cases, less than 10 days and as few
as 2 days.
Wholesale products are available to Collocation Facility Owners,
ISPs and CLECs to eliminate their reliance on costly "last mile"
copper and fiber access formally only available from LECs or major
fiber providers. Data storage and backup hosted at collocation and
storage facilities is now easy and cost effective to implement.
Dedicated 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps links can be provisioned to these storage
facilities without large investments in transport facilities and
routers using Native Ethernet protocol and layer 3 switching.
"The days of dependence on Verizon, Embarq, and AT&T for 'last
mile' solutions have ended," Mahoney added. "We have declared 'Freedom
Online'!"
