DGA Congratulates Markell on Delaware Primary Win

Tue Sep 9, 2008 11:06pm EDT
WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic Governors
Association (DGA) Chair Gov. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) today congratulated Delaware
Treasurer Jack Markell on his gubernatorial primary victory. Markell is now
heavily favored to become Delaware's next Governor.
"I congratulate Jack Markell on his victory tonight," Gov. Manchin said.
"With public service and business experience, Jack knows how to move Delaware
ahead. He knows how to strengthen Delaware's economy in these difficult times
and take the state to the next level."
Gov. Manchin added, "The nation's Democratic Governors join me in thanking
Governor Ruth Ann Minner for her years of service and dedication to Delaware."
DGA Executive Director Nathan Daschle said, "Jack Markell fought long and
hard for victory tonight, and as Governor, he'll fight even harder to deliver
for the people of Delaware. Jack is a leader and an innovator, and he knows
exactly how he will move this state forward. Delaware has a bright future
under Jack's leadership."
Markell's opponent, a long-time entrenched Republican insider, Bill Lee,
promises to reverse Delaware's progress with failed George W. Bush-style
leadership. "Jack Markell and Bill Lee couldn't be more different," Daschle
said. "Where Jack offers hope and optimism, Bill Lee trots out the same tired
ideas and messages of his last failed campaign."
Gov. Manchin said, "I also want to congratulate John Carney for energizing
so many people and raising issues important to Delaware's future. The DGA now
stands firmly with Jack Markell as he marches toward victory in November.
Democrats are coming together to support Jack because he shares our priorities
and works to improve the quality of life for Delawareans. We look forward to
welcoming Jack into the ranks of Democratic Governors this fall."
