Bringing Blue Skies to Tokyo! Keiei Doyukai's Deep Underground Project to Realize Environmental Benefits and Reduced Traffic Congestion

TOKYO--(Business Wire)--
Keiei Doyukai (headquartered in Tokyo, Toshiaki Ogasawara,
Director) is proud to announce that its Deep Underground Project, a
plan to resolve the environmental and traffic congestion issues facing
central Tokyo, was reported on in the March 31st edition of the Japan
Times.

The Deep Underground Project was begun as part of a new initiative
in underground use, stemming from the 2001 enacting of the Special
Measures for the Public Use of Deep Underground Levels Act. The
Project's objectives are as follows.

   A. to improve the environment by reducing emissions by laying the
inner-city loop roads deep underground

   B. to improve the scenery in Tokyo

   C. to improve city safety

   D. to become a city Japan can be proud of

   E. to be a public works project requiring no government funding

   F. to reduce the roughly 5 trillion Yen economic loss attributable
to traffic congestion

As such, it is a project of a national scale, being carried out in
the private sector.

When the Toyako Summit was held in Japan to focus on the
environment, the use of deep underground levels beneath central Tokyo
would reduce traffic congestion, thereby reducing the amounts of
carbon dioxide, particulate matter, and nitrogen and sulfur oxides
emitted into the atmosphere. By removing roadways from the land's
surface, we aim to allow our rivers to be rivers once more, our skies
to be blue once more, and our land to be green once more. Surface
redevelopment projects produce an economic wave effect that accounts
for 0.5% of Japan's GDP. Japan's leading-edge civil engineering
technologies can offer solutions to the problems facing the cities of
the world.

Keiei Doyukai remains actively involved in this project to insure
its smooth promotion and realization.
