RingPlus: The Cost of Calling Grandma May Have Changed Vacation Plans

Mon May 11, 2009 11:17pm EDT
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
A phone rings, and the phone company is calling, wanting to speak to the parents
of a little boy in New York about their son's sign-up to their services. The dad
answers it to find that it`s a phone company wanting to speak to the parents of
a little boy named "Jimmy" who signed up to for the company`s long-distance
calling services. Jimmy has been calling his Grandma in India every day for over
a month.

A call like that could cost his parents around $52 a day from an AT&T cell phone
to a cell phone in India, and that could add up to more than $1,584 a
month-enough to cancel a family`s vacation plans. But staying in touch with his
Grandma is important for Jimmy, just like it is for thousands of other children
living in the United States who have family and friends living overseas.

Unlike other parents, Jimmy`s dad is not worried about the phone bill because he
knows that the phone company he and his son are using is Ringplus, a free
international calling service to over 150 countries.

Jimmy`s dad`s calm demeanor changed as he spoke with Ringplus. He could not
believe his ears. He put the phone on speaker so that his son could hear it for
himself. The little boy had won a trip to Hawaii from Ring Plus for being the
most creative user in one of Ringplus`s giveaways.

Yes, Ringplus really is always free and connecting thousands of people daily. No
other company in the US provides truly free calls to cell phones around the
world. Ringplus is able to do so because of their patented ringback signal
replacement technology (which is used by other phone carriers to charge money
for the music replacing the "ring" sound heard by the caller). Ringplus uses
their technology to play targeted advertisements (and giveaways like this
Hawaiian vacation) to their consumers enabling them to make free international
calls. Ringplus is committed to revolutionizing the telecom industry because it
believes that nobody should have to pay for his fundamental right to stay
connected with his family and friends. And this new approach to phone calls also
offers very interesting possibilities for a new wave of advertisers because it
enables them to communicate with potential clients in a more direct way than
ever before possible.

Jimmy said "Ringplus is good and for free", which is very important for him. On
the question of who will join him on his free trip to Hawaii, he is not sure yet
(or maybe too shy to tell us). In any event, Ringplus knows that whoever joins
Jimmy on his vacation won`t have to worry about the phone bills for calling his
Grandma because Ringplus works in Hawaii as well.

In keeping with Ring Plus` policy of protecting its users` privacy, Ring Plus
has changed the name of the boy to Jimmy to protect his as well as his family`s
privacy.
