BridgeWatch(R) Real-Time Bridge Monitoring Software

Mon Mar 24, 2008 7:45am EDT
HARTFORD, Conn., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- USEngineering Solutions
Corporation has renamed its flagship software application, ScourWatch(R), to
BridgeWatch(R) to reflect the recent upgrade of functionality and capabilities
to address clients' current and future needs.
ScourWatch was developed as a bridge-monitoring software application to
address the challenge that over 60% of bridge failures over water were due to
scour (the eroding of the natural foundation supporting bridge infrastructure
due to certain hydrologic conditions). Bridge and bridge-related
infrastructure were aging, budgets and resources were becoming more limited,
and no real-time system existing for those charged with the safety of bridge
infrastructure.
    BridgeWatch bridge-monitoring application enables transportation
professionals to proactively monitor, in real time, their valuable
infrastructure to prevent and protect against hazardous conditions for
private, public, and commercial transportation. The application collects and
processes real-time data at regular intervals from meteorologic, hydrologic,
oceanographic, and seismologic sources, local or mobile meters, gauges, and
other sensing devices. Data comparisons are then performed with internal
client bridge databases to alert, when appropriate, emergency personnel via
any electronic medium (cell phones, pagers, email, fax, etc.) when bridges are
experiencing a dangerous or critical condition. BridgeWatch can also be
utilized as a hands-on training and scenario tool for emergency evacuation or
security drills and can schedule and track maintenance activities related to
bridges.
"We are all very excited about the new release of functionality and
concurrent name change to reflect eight years of working closely with our
clients and other transportation and infrastructure specialists to address
their critical needs," said Joe Scannell, president and founder of
USEngineering Solutions. "Our products are constantly reviewed and upgraded
to provide the necessary tools to our clients charged with the formidable task
of protecting, maintaining, and replacing bridges in a cost-effective manner
to allow safe passage by over 230 million road and rail vehicles daily and
commercial vehicles transporting over $8.4 trillion of cargo annually."
