Tue Sep 23, 2008 4:09am EDT

ATHENS, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Greece's stock exchange will flag short sales from Sept. 24 to Dec. 31 as part of a worldwide crackdown kicked off by the UK securities regulator last Thursday due to the deepening credit crisis.

"The Capital Markets Commission decided to take (these) temporary measures regarding short selling to further strengthen transparency and to secure calm market operations," the Greek regulator said in a statement on Tuesday. (Reporting by George Hatzidakis)
