HONG KONG ECONOMIC TIMES

-- Sources familiar with the situation said Chief Executive Donald Tsang would reveal as early as Wednesday strengthened relief against increasing inflation for Hong Kong people. The authorities are understood to be adding a public housing rent waiver and extra social assistance to prevent a possible crisis.

APPLE DAILY

-- The number of property transactions in Shenzhen has dropped to the level of 10 years ago, according to a study by housing authorities there.

MING PAO DAILY NEWS

-- Chief executive of HKEx (0388.HK) Paul Chow finished exercising all his share options in the company yesterday. He is estimated to have made a profit of more than HK$300 million from his 3.28 million share options after taxes and other costs.

SING TAO DAILY

-- Sources say some subscribers to SJM Holdings' shares withdrew their orders as the listing plan has been delayed due to a judicial review.

SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST

-- Slumping global stock markets have hit the pension accounts of 2 million workers in the city, with the Mandatory Provident Fund scheme suffering its worst first-half performance since it was launched in 2000.

-- Lawmakers endorsed cross-border emissions trading and gave legal backing to caps on power firms' emissions of pollutants.

-- Hong Kong passed its first anti-racism law and was immediately plunged into controversy over a clause which mandates that ethnic minorities be provided with translation services if they can't speak Chinese or English.

-- Hong Kong flagship airline Cathay Pacific Airways (0293.HK) announced air fare increases by as much as 15 percent for seats in first- and business-classes. The new ticket prices are effective from today.
