The win, coupled with the New York Mets' 8-1 loss to the Florida Marlins, put the Phillies in the playoffs for the first time since 1993.

The Phillies and Mets entered Sunday's play tied for the NL East lead, but the Mets gave up seven runs in the first inning en route to the season-ending loss to the Marlins.

New York had led the division by seven games on September 12.
