BANGKOK, May 25 (Reuters) - Thailand's economy shrank by a
seasonally adjusted 1.9 percent in the first quarter, bigger
than expected, as the global slump in demand and domestic
political unrest pushed the country into recession, data showed
on Monday.
The figure published by the agency was worse than a 1.6
percent contraction forecast by analysts and compared with 6.1
percent contraction in the fourth quarter of 2008. Recession is
commonly defined as two consecutive quarters of economic
contraction.
