BANGKOK, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Thai stocks are expected to rise
on Thursday, extending gains from the previous day, with
investors likely to snap up energy shares hit by a recent
sell-off, analysts said.
However, falls on other Asian bourses may dampen sentiment,
they said.
"There's still buying of energy shares after the stocks
faced heavy selling earlier. Rising oil prices should help fuel
buying," said Kavee Chukitkasem, head of research at Kasikorn
Securities.
U.S. crude futures held above $80 a barrel in early trade
after U.S. crude inventories showed an unexpected decline. At
0101 GMT, NYMEX crude for December delivery CLc1 was down 40
cents at $80.
The energy subindex .SETEN recovered on Wednesday from an
11-week low after a unit of PTT Exploration and Production
(PTTEP) (PTTE.BK) said it had stopped an oil leak and doused
the main fire on its Montara and West Atlas oil rig in the
Timor Sea. [ID:nSYD410182]
However, PTTEP, whose stock hit a four-month low this week,
said the start-up of the Montara field in Australia might be
delayed from the first quarter of 2010 to an unspecified date
later in the year. [ID:nBKK489291]
On Wednesday, the benchmark SET index rose 2.68 percent to
686.41, recovering from a five-day losing streak.
