Rubenstein joins from Sony Corp's Sony Pictures Digital, where he was also an executive vice president.

He will be responsible for leading Marvel's efforts to increase the reach of its comic characters -- such as Spider-Man and the X-Men -- across digital media and platforms such as the Internet, digital video, animated content and mobile games.

Late last year, Marvel launched a subscription-based website with thousands of its comic books available in digital format.

At Sony Pictures, Rubenstein managed the digital growth of the studio's popular game shows such as "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!," leading the expansion of these properties into broadband, interactive television, mobile, and the PSP and PS3 platforms.

Rubenstein will relocate to Marvel's New York headquarters and report to John Turitzin, executive vice president, office of the chief executive.
