Janos Zsuga, Chief Executive of the transmission company told a parliamentary committee that Hungary received 3 million cubic metres of gas from Austria on Tuesday, when shipments via Ukraine came to a halt.

If no gas supplies come via the Austrian pipeline either, the country may need to take further measures to cover daily consumption needs, and free up strategic gas reserves, he said.

"Today's situation is even more serious (than yesterday)," Zsuga told the committee. (Reporting by Krisztina Than; Editing by Charles Dick)
