NEW DELHI, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (MAHM.BO), India's top utility vehicle maker, will invest one billion rupees ($25.4 million) on improving engine emmissions, a senior company official said on Wednesday.

"We have spent about 2 billion rupees to bring M-Hawk engine in production ... we will be spending about one billion rupees on further emission improvement," Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra's automotive unit, told reporters at an auto show.

Mahindra is launching a range of hybrid and biofuel vehicles to meet the growing demand for fuel-efficient "green" vehicles. These include bio-diesel variants of Scorpio and the Bolero multi utility and a battery-powered three-wheeled rickshaw. (Reporting by Rakesh Sharma, Editing by Mark Williams)
