NEW DELHI, Dec 30 (Reuters) - India has delayed a global auction of third-generation spectrum by around two weeks to Jan. 30, the telecoms ministry said on Tuesday, citing a request from potential bidders for more time.

The auction was originally scheduled for Jan. 16.

The deadline for applications to participate in the auction has been extended to Jan. 15, from Jan. 5 set earlier, the government statement said.

An auction for broadband wireless spectrum would be held two days after the close of the 3G spectrum auction. (Reporting by Devidutta Tripathy, Editing by Mark Williams)
