NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Dell Inc (DELL.O), the world's No. 2 maker of personal computers, said on Tuesday it had tied up with Indian retailer Infinity Retail to sell its laptops and desktops through the Croma chain of stores from April.

Dell last year abandoned a long-standing policy of only dealing directly with customers, and started selling PCs through retailers like Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) and Best Buy Co (BBY.N) in North America, Carrefour SA (CARR.PA) in Europe and China's GOME Electrical Appliances Holding Ltd (0493.HK).

"The agreement with Croma will strengthen Dell's consumer presence in India, making our products more accessible to more customers," Michael Tatelman, vice president of sales and marketing for Dell's consumer business, said in a statement.

Infinity Retail, a part of India's salt-to-software Tata Group, operates 17 stores in six Indian cities under the Croma brand name.
