Indian steel makers may raise prices in July-paper

Wed Jun 3, 2009 11:38pm EDT

NEW DELHI, June 4 (Reuters) - Indian steel makers are likely to raise prices from next month as demand revives in domestic and international markets, the Business Standard newspaper reported on Thursday.

"I believe, in July, there will be some push in the market," the paper quoted Jatinder Mehra, chief executive of mid-sized Essar Steel, as saying. "In the Indian market, revival has already begun. Auto fabrication, capital goods and white goods are doing very well."

Currently domestic steel prices are higher than global rates, the paper said. (Reporting by Mayank Bhardwaj)
