HK shares open down 0.2 pct but HSBC holds firm

HONG KONG, March 12 (Reuters) - Hong Kong shares will start slightly lower, with China stocks underperforming in the absence of fresh announcement on China's stimulus spending but HSBC (0005.HK) held steady as its shares begin trading without rights on Thursday.

HSBC will open 0.3 percent higher at HK$35.70, rising above its theoretical ex-rights price of HK$35.61.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index .HSI was indicated 0.2 percent or 25.19 points lower at 11,905.47.

The China Enterprises Index .HSCE of top mainland firms was down 0.9 percent at 6,942.36.
