-- The premier said Taiwan's No. 4 nuclear power plant should be finished quickly to save on fossil fuels.

-- President Ma Ying-jeou outlined an energy conservation plan that would cut electricity use by 10 percent, water consumption by 20 percent and paper use by 30 percent.

UNITED DAILY NEWS

-- Fifteen people got perfect scores on a standardised test that decides admission to top-ranked high schools.

-- A court has ruled against ex-president Chen Shui-bian in a defamation suit filed against him by People First Party Chairman James Soong.

LIBERTY TIMES

-- Foreign Minister Francisco Ou apologised for his prior possession of a U.S. green card.

ECONOMIC DAILY NEWS

-- Taiwan's top financial regulators will try to allow the 50 Taiwan firms listed in Hong Kong to launch Taiwan despository receipts (TDR) at home, as part of a broader move to improve the island's business ties with China.

-- Merrill Lynch MER.N is bullish about shares of Taiwan's financial companies, hotel chains and PC companies, Merrill Lynch's Taiwan research head said.
