Sony announces Q3 results

Co announced its consolidated results for Q3 of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2007. Sales and operating revenue increased 9.8% to $21.9 bln compared with the same quarter of the previous FY; on a local currency basis sales increased 7%. Sales within the Electronics segment increased 16.9%. In the Game segment, sales increased by 5.6% compared to the same quarter of the previous FY. In the Pictures segment, there was a 46.8% increase in revenue. In the Financial Services segment, revenue decreased by 9.2% mainly due to a decrease in valuation gains in the general account and the separate account at Sony Life Insurance Co. Operating income of Y178.9 bln ($1.503 bln) was recorded, a decrease of 14.9% compared to the same quarter of the previous FY. Net income per basic common share was $1.34.
