NATO confirms recapture of district from Taliban

KABUL (Reuters) - NATO-led forces in Afghanistan confirmed that Taliban insurgents have been pushed out of the outskirts of the southern city of Kandahar in a joint offensive of alliance and Afghan forces on Thursday.

"Both Afghan and ISAF forces have cleared the Arghandab district and have created a safe and stable environment in the region," it said in a statement referring to the organization's International Security Assistance Force.
