 - News conference on handling disasters in Asia-Pacific
region with John Holmes, U.N. under secretary general for

 - A seminar on Thai and ASEAN Cooperation in automotive,

 - YUDHOYONO CONFIRMS COALITION WITH GOLKAR
 President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono confirmed on Wednesday
the Golkar Party's inclusion in his next administration's
coalition as he prepared candidates for his cabinet. (Jakarta

 - SARATOGA CAPITAL EYES $124 MLN LOAN FOR MINING INVESMENT
 Indonesian investment firm, Saratoga Capital plans to
borrow $124 million from the World Bank's private arm, the
International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Commonwealth
Development Corporation (CDC) to help fund its mining
investment, said founder Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno. (Investor
Daily) - MILITARY BUSINESS TAKEOVER 'MERELY A FORMALITY'
 The much-awaited presidential regulation on the takeover of
military business drew criticism due to lack of information,
raising concerns on whether the process would be transparent
and accountable, some military analysts said. (Jakarta Post)
 - KADIN UPBEAT SBY MAY TAKE ADVICE MORE SERIOUSLY
 Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN)
chairman, M.S. Hidayat, said he is optimistic President Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono will adopt more recommendations from its new
business road map, including passing the law on land clearance,
revising labour laws, reviewing inked Free Trade Areas
agreements, and weaning local industry off raw material exports
to exporting processed ones.
 - NGOS TO REPORT MISSING SUB-ARTICLE IN HEALTH LAW TO
POLICE
 Several NGOs said they will report to the police the
omission of a sub-article stipulating tobacco is an addictive
substance from the recently-passed Health Bill.
 - ANTI-TERROR SQUAD HUNT FOR KORAN STUDY GROUP
 Police are tracking down members of a Koran study group
formerly led by a slain terror suspect in a bid to stop the
risk of the group spreading influence, National Police
Spokesman Nanan Soekarna said.
 MARKET SNAPSHOTS
 * Indonesia's benchmark index .JKSE rose 1.61 percent,
helped by gains in coal miner Bumi Resources (BUMI.JK), which
rose 5.4 percent and nickel miner PT Inco (INCO.JK), which rose
4.9 percent.
 * The Dow industrials pierced the 10,000 level on Wednesday
for the first time in a year on surprisingly robust company
results and better-than-expected retail sales. [.N]
 * Oil rose above $75 a barrel to settle at a record high
for the year on Wednesday as economic optimism hinted at a
recovery in global energy demand. [O/R]

 * Malaysian palm oil futures ended slightly higher on
Wednesday, easing from a near four-week high earlier in the
session that was fuelled by a rally in crude oil prices and
hopes of improving exports.[POI/]
 * In Indonesia, the state marketing centre based in Jakarta
did not sell any of 11,500 tonnes of palm oil offered in an
auction due to low bids. They sold 8,500 tonnes of palm oil at
a top price 6,587 rupiah per kg on Tuesday.[OILS/TEND]

ASIA MARKETS NEWS - For an outlook of Asian stock trading,
click on [STXNEWS/AS] - The high-yielding Indonesian rupiah
outperformed its peers on Wednesday as the U.S. dollar lost
ground globally, but the Thai baht's strength was tempered by
suspected central bank intervention.[EMRG/FRX] - Most Southeast
Asian stock markets traded higher on Wednesday, with Singapore,
Malaysia boosted up by bullish sentiment on positive earnings
from U.S. markets, but Thai stocks slid to a two-week
low.[.SO]
