Zimbabwe presidential vote to proceed: election authority

HARARE (Reuters) - The withdrawal by Zimbabwe's opposition from Friday's presidential election has no legal effect and the vote will go ahead, the electoral commission said on Wednesday.

"Accordingly, the commission does not recognize the purpoted withdrawal. We are, therefore, proceeding with the presidential election run-off this Friday as planned," Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairman George Chiweshe said.
