KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Reuters) - The head of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TLMM.KL), Abdul Wahid Omar, has been appointed to take over the reins of the country's biggest bank, Malayan Banking Bhd (MBBM.KL), the Edge Financial Daily said on Tuesday.

Rumours that Abdul Wahid would leave Telekom have been circulating in the local stock market since late last year, after Telekom announced plans to spin off its mobile phone businesses into a separately listed company called TM International.

Abdul Wahid is set to replace Maybank Chief Executive Amirsham Aziz, whose contract expires in April, the Edge Financial Daily said in a report quoting unidentified sources.

Both Telekom and Maybank are state-invested companies.

Abdul Wahid would be replaced at Telekom by Jamaludin Ibrahim, the former chief executive of its bigger mobile phone rival, Maxis Communications, the daily said.

Maxis, Malaysia's biggest mobile phone operator by subscribers, was bought out last year by its major shareholder, tycoon Ananda Krishnan, and was delisted from the market. (Reporting by Mark Bendeich)
